Walking down the road earlier today we spotted – well, in truth, J spotted – two groups of fungi on the mown grass verge. It has rained in biblical amounts these past couple of days so fungi are everywhere.
So – the reason for this post is that having (I think) identified the species I really wanted to share the common names with you. Doubtless you will be as charmed we were.
First is Trooping Crumble Cap (Coprinellus disseminatus)
… and the second is Stinking Dapperling (Lepiota cristata) which is said to be possibly poisonous
Neither of these area rare but they new to the neighbourhood and the names are such fun.
Dapper king = a small dapper man or boy. Who knew that.
Not mushroom for doubt.
