Yesterday this area had its first serious winter storm and all is deep and even today, if not terribly crisp as temperatures are hovering around zero still.  The skiing and snowshoeing opportunities in the arboretum are about to get underway and coincidentally, recent days have seen reports up there of a Goshawk, of a Red-bellied Woodpecker and even a Black-backed Woodpecker (there were photos of that one) … all rare birds for us and ones that certainly increase the incentive to go wandering the trails as Christmas approaches.
