Still too much snow, March takes such a long time to get its act together and even though today is the first day of spring only the sun feels spring-like.  Down the road on the Macdonald farm fields the vernal pools are forming with the melt water and already a good crop of Canada Geese have arrived … shouldn’t be long now before interesting ducks on their way north start to appear also – will need to keep an eye on them.

Found a nice Pileated Woodpecker in the arboretum hammering away at a couple of trees – the picture below shows the huge long tongue that they insert into the holes they have created to haul out insects and grubs.
