Cornell in conjunction with the US Fish and Wildlife Service have produced a major report on thye state of birds in the US today … as they say “Birds are a priceless part of America’s heritage. They are beautiful, they are economically important—and they reflect the health of our environment. This State of the Birds report reveals troubling declines of bird populations during the past 40 years—a warning signal of the failing health of our ecosystems. At the same time, we see heartening evidence that strategic land management and conservation action can reverse declines of birds. This report calls attention to the collective efforts needed to protect nature’s resources for the benefit of people and wildlife.”

You can download a copy of this report from the special website they have created at …. BUT, even if you can’t find time to read it, go to that page anyway and take five minutes to watch the quite stunning accompanying video. It has some wonderful, wonderful film of birds but it is also a classic piece of polemic worth watching simply for the persuasive skills of the people who put it together – I always take pleasure from professionals at work Great film.
