This morning I enjoyed the sight of a beautiful male Cardinal sitting in the Magnolia tree amongst the flowers against a blue sky but naturally as soon as the camera was produced his avian optical-lock sensors kicked in and he was off in a flash. A good start to the day. Pretty quiet at the pond however with mostly just the regulars popping in every now and again to bathe – a chilly wind and dampness in the air keeping most birds sensibly away, no doubt. We were, though, graced by the presence of a small gang of Cedar Waxwings; always a handsome bird that is worth looking at;

If you look back at recent pictures from the auto-camera you will see that those ferns are growing at a quite remarkable rate.
