We (almost) won Canada !!

The five day Nature Conservancy Canada Bioblitz ended last night and we came in eighth out of 1788 participants (8/1788). That's two spots down the league table from last year but at 249 species we increased our total by 32 ... eighth place out of all of Canada. Must say we are [...]

Spring on the Forest Floor

We spent this sunny morning wandering in the arboretum. The leaves have barely started to appear until the last day or two and so the forest floor is covered with ephemeral species flowers and simply glorious. It will only be like this for a week or so now and the weather forecast [...]

Great Spangled Fritillary

To help with the Nature Conservancy Of Canada five nation; "Bioblitz" we spent some time in Arboretum identifying species ... this was one of the stars. Their caterpillars grow on wild violets on the edges of woodland.

500 … and a change of pace

500 days ago I set myself the daily challenge of identifying and then sharing at least one different species of bird, insect, plant etc that I could find locally. Yesterday the number reached the 500 mark. My intention is to double that and reach at least 1000 species but no longer will I [...]
