Eastern Chipmunk – Tamias striatus

Although every other creature in Quebec other than Coyotes has visited our garden in the 21 years we have been here we have never seen a Chipmunk before, so we were really happy to see this young fellow scurry across the deck after a major wind and rain “event”. It’s strange because we have ideal habitat for them and they are not uncommon in the arboretum, which isn’t far away … anyway, here he is.

Tamias striatus, a close relative of the American red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

He/she had just realised I was looking at him/her and had scurried down the steps from the deck only to come back and peer over the top to see if I had gone 🙂
