Head Squirrel of the Garden Clean-up Team
Scurry the Squirrel – because he scurries and he is an Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) and with a genus like Sciurius naming him Scurry just fits.
Despite being black(ish) he/she is nevertheless a Gray Squirrel, as are the rather less common cream coloured forms.

Hi Richard & Jean,
Scurry’s colouring is amazing. I have a friend in Scotland who has a wildlife sanctuary at the bottom of her garden. She has deer, birds, hedgehogs and red squirrels.
When we stay with her, we watch these creatures from our bedroom window and are wrapped!
I’ve sent her a link to this story. She hates grey squirrels but I don’t know how she could not like this one!
Hi Helen – quite a lot of the squirrels in our garden are this colour alongside the regular gray ones – we also have the occasional visit by the more unusual cream colours squirrels
