Northern Flicker

An early feeding trip for a local family of Northern Flickers brought three of them together into the garden this week. They were especially interested in insects lurking amongst the stones on “the beach”.

Flickers are, for whatever reason, exceptionally nervous birds that fly away if anyone comes closer to them than they deem appropriate.
