Hermit Thrush – probably, but …

The garden is throwing up some interesting birds this week. Today’s offering is a Thrush that spent some time around the pond late afternoon Saturday.

It’s “rusty” tail and clear white eye-ring makes this pretty certainly a Hermit Thrush … but I was distracted bya fine white wing bar and, well, grayish cheeks and some wishful thinking made me wonder if the differential diagnosis (as we used to say when I was a worker) might not at first exclude Gray-cheeked Thrush but my chum Mark (a birding guru if ever there was one) reckons I was right first time. Well, you can always hope … that’s what makes birds fun
Anyway, the pond it doing its stuff.
