Yet again, nothing to do with birds or wildlife today, just some arcane eclectica.

If you do remember the fine fellow in the photograph below then you also originated in England and lived through the fifties and sixties or you are a seriously nerdy collector of cartoon trivia.

This is “Flook” – major character in a splendid and vicious satirical cartoon strip drawn by a Canadian (Wally Fawkes under the pen name of Trog) that appeared in both very right wing newspapers in Britain and also very left wing ones at different times of his career.  I enjoyed the cartoons immensely, but the reason i am posting this picture is sheer nostalgia … I found him lurking at the back of a cupboard last night.  In this manifestation he is almost as old as i am which means he is nearing sixty and looks hale and hearty for something made of papier-maché.  I remember travelling with my grandfather on a bus in Leeds when i was less than five years old and at a long stop on the journey he hopped off, went into a confectioners shop and returned with Flook for me – he was filled with toffees.  the Toffees are long gone but Flook and the memory remain.

So – are you brave enough to admit to recognising him?
