Yesterday was the day of the infamous Hurricane Irene which was really a non-event around here. Undoubtedly not a lot of fun for some people but after all the hype and panic in the media all we had was a day of moderately heavy rain and high-ish winds. Not even a power outage, just a couple of flickers albeit some people around here seem to still be in the dark this morning.

In fact, as the day before had ben dovoted to top dressing lawn and laying grass seed you could say the timing was excellent. A bad day, as you can imagine for garden birding with just the occasional damp and bedraggled chap venturing out for a well washed peanuts at our feeders.

We are beginning to see signs of southerly traveling birds coming through the neighbourhood with small warblers etc pausing for admiration before moving on.
