Signs of the Season Turning
Our first visit to North America was in 1987 at about this time of the year. A friend we were staying with mentioned that seeing Egrets on a lake in Minnesota was his marker that summer is nearly over while ours has become seeing Golden Rod in flower. Hard to believe when its 27C and humid outside but he was correct. But shadows are lengthening, the light is a touch more golden in the morning as we take our tea. Mists and mellow fruitfulness will be with us before long.
These plants are in our front garden – Golden Rod that arrived by itself and a Rowan tree that we planted 20 years ago from a random seedling found at the back of the border.

Best Rowan berry season in a good while.
Not just Rowans, Gay. Seems like every plant that is capable of producing fruit is groaning under the weight. Birds and other critters will go into winter well fed this year.
