My Aunt Nancy celebrated her 103rd birthday today and I just received a photo of her celebrating with flowers and a cake … needless to say, she is no longer all that autonomous but she lives in a wonderful retirement home in a small rural community on the edge of Exmoor in Somerset. My sister lives within driving distance and keeps a good eye on her.
Not many people make it to this great age – she’s one of the best.
So, I thought I would see what photographs I have on file of her long life.
About 1912 with her parents (my grandparents) and her older sister, Olive
1912 (approx) with older sister Olive and a doll
Sometime in the 1930s – she was a great horse rider in those days
Around 1935 – more formal dress
Just after the war – around 1946
1982 – walking long the fields beside the River Barle with Jock the dog
A big jump in time – on her 100th birthday
Today at 103 … less than 1000 like her in Britain
