We came to this garden west of Montreal in the spring of 1998 fresh from several decades of gardening experience in England. It was our intention to use the plot for sitting around with cold beers and good books and to put the hard work of serious gardening behind us while we took up new interests in a new country.
But a real gardener cannot do that – faced with a plot of land, mostly lumpy grass surrounded by mature trees, the urge to “change things” is irresistible. Soon we were digging and delving and planting and plotting with the intention of creating a space that was as attractive to the local wildlife, especially the birds, as it would be to ourselves.
We think we are getting there.
You will find links in the menu bar to pages where we discuss aspects of the garden and its inhabitants in some detail – and then there is the Garden Journal where we will post regular news items and things that interest us, usually with plenty of photographs, to allow you to follow the garden through the seasons. To make it easy, you can choose to have copies of these posts sent directly to your email inbox on the day of publication – just leave us your address in the box below (you can unsubscribe at any time with a single click).
Meanwhile, here are some photographs to whet your appetite.
