It’s near the western tip of Montreal island in a fairly leafy suburb near the lakeshore.

When we bought the house in 1998 apart from an undeveloped a nd very shaded bed on the southern edge of the rear garden the 15000 sq ft ploy was almoat all boring grass – we have worked to introduce some interest and expect to be continuing this project for many years to come. Summers reach a steamy 30 to 35 deg C while winters are deep and crisp and even with lows down to minus 30degC. Fortunately the deep snow cover protects the plants and make it possible to grow interesting specimens.
This forst image shows the southern side of the garden facing west. This was where the previous owners had their ho-hum border which we have greatly enlarged in size and capacity. The small tree with the white flowers at center rear is a Pagoda Dogwood, to its left are lower Dogwood shrubs, a Magnolia stellata, a Hibiscus and many assorted perennials. The low growth to the front borders the pond, of which more later.
